In working with women throughout the perinatal time, I have begun to notice a common theme.
I work with lots of postpartum moms from a few weeks postpartum to a few years. Typical goals include weight loss, making time for self-care, getting stronger, regaining core connection, getting healthy (-ier) prior to trying for baby number two, concerns with how to beat cravings, how to enjoy and incorporate a healthy diet again etc.
There is a very common theme that I keep hearing and it’s this or some version of this…
“I know what to do (i.e.: how to eat better, that I should be exercising more or at all, that I should make time to take care of myself), but I’m not doing it. I want to feel better (lose weight/be strong etc.), but…but…but.”
As a postpartum mom, a mom trying to conceive baby two myself, a mom who is a wellness professional but still has these same struggles, I’ve decided that we need help!
Motivation can wax and wane, cravings are strong and real, exhaustion and sleep deprivation contribute greatly…and then, there’s the adjustment to new role(s) and time limitations, the fluctuating hormones etc etc
It’s no wonder self-care can feel so challenging, no wonder motivation can feel transient at best.
Of course it’s multifactorial and individual in nature, but I deeply feel this familiar struggle for my clients and on many levels, for myself.
So, I reached out to an expert for help!
